The hotel and its history

A bit of history...

Founded in the early 1900s in Montrouge, the Hôtel Sixteen initially accommodated printers and visitors to the Buffalo velodrome. Completely redesigned in 2014 by artist Bénédicte Van der Maar, it now combines historic charm with contemporary design to offer a unique retreat just a stone's throw from Paris.

The capital of printing

It all began in 1900 when Montrouge, a town known for horticulture, became the capital of printing and gas meters. The furnished hotel welcomed visitors of printer Charles Draeger, one of the pioneers of advertising in France, visitors of neighboring publishers Larousse, Bayard, and Maeght, boxing and cycling enthusiasts who went to the Buffalo Velodrome, which could hold 20,000 spectators, employees of the Compagnie des Compteurs, which had up to 10,000 employees, and then Schlumberger in 1977. In 1991, as the town changed its appearance, the hotel also evolved.

The renewal

In 2014, the venue was completely renovated and expanded, becoming a lively hub where local residents and tourists from around the world visiting Paris mingle with artists, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople visiting the Crédit Agricole headquarters or Orange, as well as visitors to the Beffroi de Montrouge convention center, the Montrouge Contemporary Art Fair, and the nearby Versailles Park.

The hotel has a partnership with Choice Hotels International under the Comfort Hotel brand, which ended in 2020. Artist Bénédicte Van der Maar revisits the charming heritage of the century-old brick building and dedicates it to travelers with her large wall photographs, Wall Art, in the design of the rooms and the bar.

In 2020, the hotel became completely independent, a place of life for visitors and travelers.
